Washington Lee Team tours the Herbert E. Hoover site!

On Tuesday, November 7, 2017, students from the Washington Lee High School ACE DC Mentor Program attended a construction site visit to the Herbert C. Hoover Building located at 1401 Constitution Avenue NW in Washington, D.C. The building serves as the headquarters for the Department of Commerce and was the largest office building in the world when it was constructed in 1932. The group toured Phase 4 of the major modernization. The project is a joint venture between Gilbane and Grunley. The site visit was led by Jonathan Hrehor, Superintendent II at Gilbane, and a mentor at Washington Lee. The students learned about mechanical and structural upgrades as well as working with existing conditions. Several students said they are more interested in entering the AEC industry after attending the site visit.
