ACE DC Committees

ACE DC is able to operate thanks to our many board members, mentors, and volunteers who are active on our committees. There are several different committees to choose from based on your interests and how you hope to impact ACE DC. Committees meet virtually about once per month.

See below for more information on each committee. Reach out to our Affiliate Director, Emily Heimsoth, at washintondc@acementor.org if you are interested in discussing further and/or joining a committee meeting to learn more before committing!

Mentor Support Committee

The Mentor Support Committee shall coordinate with the Affiliate Director to support the efforts of the mentors participating in the Program. The Committee shall develop the curriculum for the Program; conduct mentor training sessions; support mentors and team leaders with student recruitment and student activities; and lead the effort to recruit new mentors, including by providing “lunch-and-learn” sessions. The Committee shall develop tools and resources to support mentors in the Program meetings. The Committee will organize and provide mentor appreciation events and promote networking amongst mentors.  The Committee will coordinate with the Affiliate Director regarding the placement of new mentors.

Fundraising Committee

The Fundraising Committee shall develop, inform, and advise the Board about the Corporation’s fundraising policy, develop a fundraising plan for the Corporation, plan and implement fundraising events (annual golf outing, gingerbread competition, and scholarship awards breakfast) for the Corporation, and coordinate with the Affiliate Director to effectively utilize Board resources to raise funds for the Corporation.

Scholarship Committee

The Scholarship Committee shall review scholarship applications and determine who shall be the recipients of a scholarship offered by the Corporation. The allocation of funds for scholarships shall be established annually by the Board. The Committee shall be comprised of at least three (3) members.  The Committee shall solicit scholarship applications at least six (6) weeks prior to the award of scholarships, and shall evaluate such applications and award such scholarships prior to the annual scholarship award event. 

Marketing Committee

The Marketing Committee shall actively promote the goals, objectives, and accomplishments of the Corporation through agreed upon promotional efforts.  The Committee shall coordinate with and assist the Affiliate Director with the issuance of press releases, newsletters, flyers, and social media postings.  

GAGE Committee

Governance, Affiliate Growth, and Engagement

The Marketing Committee shall actively promote the goals, objectives, and accomplishments of the Corporation through agreed upon promotional efforts.  The Committee shall coordinate with and assist the Affiliate Director with the issuance of press releases, newsletters, flyers, and social media postings.  

Student and School Growth Committee 

The Student and School Growth Committee shall recruit new schools within which the Corporation can provide the Program to support the accomplishment of the Corporation’s objectives and goals.  The Committee shall prepare and issue the “Request for Proposal” for the annual Program competition and organize the annual student presentation nights. The Committee shall create and provide all-affiliate programming. The Committee shall coordinate and facilitate Director visits to the schools participating in the Program. The Committee shall meet on a regular basis with student representatives from active school affiliates participating in the Program to solicit student comments and implement student recommendations.  

Beyond Mentorship Committee

Alumni and Externship

The Beyond Mentorship Committee shall develop programming for Program alumni; promote and support the Transformative Partner Program (“TPP”) offered through the national ACE organization; and provide opportunities for Program students and alumni to network and learn through externships and internships.
