Update on ACE DC Programming in light of Covid-19.
Dear ACE DC Students, Teachers, Parents and Mentors,
As you adjust your schedules to accommodate the current national emergency, we wanted to assure you that the ACE Mentor Program will always be here for our students mentors and teachers, whether that is in-person or via a virtual platform.
Below is a brief update on the status of the ACE DC Program and our end of year school events:
Since all schools in the area are closed, and given the current restrictions in place, we are no longer holding any in person meetings for our ACE DC Teams. Several of our teams have opted to host virtual meetings in order to continue working on their project. If you're interested in participating in virtual meetings but have not heard from your Team leader, please let me know (you can respond to this email).
Unfortunately, many other teams are unable to meet virtually for various reasons. Since many teams can't meet and the fact that presentations will likely not be allowed to be held in person, the ACE DC Board has decided to cancel our Final Student Presentation Nights that were to be held April 20th and May 19th. This was a very difficult decision for us, but was necessary given the current restrictions in place. We will work with those teams who are continuing to meet virtually to help them showcase their final projects, and will remain in touch with our team leaders and mentors to assist in highlighting the various successes of our 2019-2020 school year. We are also working on virtual events and at home learning opportunities for all students in our affiliate...so keep an eye out for upcoming details!
While the ACE DC year has ended early for us, we wanted to make you aware of a new ACE student resource that we believe will be helpful in keeping our ACE DC students engaged in architecture, engineering, and construction careers as they are learning remotely. ACE has just released the new ACE Student Resources Online Site. The online tool site is a collection of carefully curated, student-directed information. Here, you will find a wealth of industry-related information, including career pathways, professional development, post-secondary preparation, alumni information, and self-directed student activities. This platform is mobile-friendly, and can easily access ACE Student Resources Online using a computer, tablet, or smartphone.
Finally, we also wanted you to know that ACE DC will still be offering scholarships this year. All of our eligible seniors have received both email and paper mail updates about the application process and deadline extension. If you are a senior and have not received any updates, please let us know ASAP!
While this certainly isn't the way we planned to end our year, we are still excited to find new and innovative ways to engage and celebrate our ACE DC program! Follow us on our social media and keep an eye out for future emails! We look forward to an exciting and hopefully un-disrupted program during the 2020-2021 school year!
